Honda Reflex - Riding a 60mpg scooter is your patriotic duty!
Works great. It breaks down each MIDI instrument into a GarageBand specific AIFF file (you can't just play them, they are only good for importing into GarageBand) Then you can import them into GarageBand!
I haven't used this yet, but it sounds good, especially if it allows you to use sound fonts.
Even better in my particular case was to use MidiPipe and Mighty MIDI to pipe the MIDI directly into GB while recording. This way the notes are easily editable in GB. Very handy if you want to change tempo, instruments, note velocities, etc.
This is a piece of cake to set up, and works like a charm, at least for one instrument/track at a time. The instructions are at http://gbxchange.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=769#769
I think you'll find this even easier to use than the MIDIpipe/Mighty MIDI solution. It gives you editable notes just like that method but it takes a fraction of the time and does not require any 'by hand' alignment of the tracks after you import them..try it, I think you'll like it!
Import Song Into Garageband Mac Os Windows 7
I haven't tried this app yet, but based on what I've read about it, I doesn't produce AIFF files, it simply breaks out the multiple parts of a MIDI file so that individual instruments have thier own MIDI files.
..have an .aif extension yet show up in GB as MIDI loops?
I was a little disappointed. Hustle and flow djay and shug kiss songs. I wanted to convert a MIDI Quicktime file so that I could import the MIDI data into GarageBand, not an AIFF. sigh..
Schneb, it's not actually an AIFF, it merely appears to be one. When you import it into GB, it treats it like MIDI. Hope this helps :)

Let my try to clear up the confusion here. Dent du Midi never converts the MIDI data into an audio waveform. The MIDI data from the original MIDI file is separated into tracks and encapsulated in such a way that GarageBand can import the MIDI data. The reason the files appear as AIFF (.aif) is because that is the only format that GB allows to be dragged and dropped on it. This method has some distinct advantages over the other methods mentioned. I hope this clears things up a bit. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions or issues.
